DAY 55 Prayer for Peaceful Reunification

Today, Day 55 of Prayer for Peaceful Reunification,is a holiday here, known as Hangeul Day in South Korea, and Chosŏn'gŭl Day in North Korea. It is the national Korean commemorative day marking the invention and the proclamation of Hangul (한글; 조선글), the alphabet of the Korean language, by the 15th-century Korean monarch Sejong the Great in 1446. It is observed on October 9 in South Korea and on January 15 in North Korea.


한민족 그리스도인들이 평화의 사도가 되어 한민족이 하나님 안에서 화평을 이루는 데에 쓰임 받게 하옵소서.

평화의 하나님, 일본의 식민통치에서 벗어나 한민족에게 해방과 독립을 주신 하나님께 찬양과 영광을 돌리나이다. 한민족 그리스도인들이 평화의 사도가 되게 하옵소서. 저희로 하여금 남북으로 분단된 국토를 그리스도의 사랑으로 치유하게 하옵소서. 동족상잔의 아픔을 겪은 민족의 상처를 하늘 사랑으로 보듬게 하옵소서. 오랜 휴전으로 전쟁의 위협을 벗어나지 못하는 남북에 하늘의 평화를 주시옵소서. 

어느 마을, 어느 교회에서든 화평케 하시는 하나님의 은총을 누리게 하옵소서. 분열을 극복하고 하나 되는 길을 찾도록 하늘의 지혜를 주시옵소서. “우리의 화평(엡2:14)”이신 예수 그리스도의 사랑에 온전히 순종하게 하옵소서. “둘로 하나를 만드사 중간에 막힌 담(엡 2:14)”을 허물어 주신 그리스도의 사랑으로 충만케 하여 주시옵소서. 한민족 그리스도인들이 한반도의 평화와 한민족의 하나 됨을 위해서 썩어지는 밀알이 되게 하옵소서. 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

May Korean Christians be used as apostles of your peace.

God of peace, we give you praise and glory for freeing us from Japanese imperial rule. May Korean Christians be apostles of peace. Use us to heal the divided land with the love of Christ. With your heavenly love, help us to embrace the scars of fratricidal war. May peace fill the skies of North and South, still mired in threats of war under the long ceasefire.

In every town and every church may the people enjoy your reconciling grace. Give us heavenly wisdom to overcome our division and become one. Help us to respond wholeheartedly to the love of Jesus Christ, who is our peace (Ephesians 2:14). Fill us with the love of Christ that unites two into one and breaks down dividing walls (Ephesians 2:14). May the Christians of Korea be the seed that falls and sprouts for the peace and unity of the Korean nation.
