The Fourth Global Inter-religious Conference on Article 9

Flyer,  November 7, 2014

The Japanese Conference Committee (JCC) of the Global Inter-religious Conference on Article 9 of the Japanese Peace Constitution warmly invites you to the Fourth Global Inter-religious Conference on Article 9 which will be held at YMCA Asia Youth Center (Korean YMCA in Japan) in Tokyo on Dec. 1-5, 2014.

The main focus of the Conference is to share the values of Article 9 of the Japanese Peace Constitution, and to discuss strategies to sharpen peace and justice advocacy in the region, based on the spirit of Article 9. The Conference also aims to highlight issues related to peace and reconciliation and integrate them into the mainstream agenda of the religious communities in Asia and the world. The Conference will encourage us to work towards building solidarity, enhancing perspectives, and initiating a proactive role as a faith-based community in building peace and justice in the world.

It is very significant to hold the 4th Conference in 2014 in Tokyo, when and where WCC President Rev. Dr Sang Chang visited the Prime Minister’s Official Residence in Tokyo to meet face to face with Chief Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Yoshihide Suga and hand him the two statements, "Towards a Nuclear-free World" and "On Reinterpretation of Article Nine of the Japanese Constitution" adopted by the WCC Central Committee in July.

Topic: Article 9 and Global Peace
Subtitle: Transcending Nationalism

The clash of opposing nationalisms is causing devastating conflicts throughout the world. As people of faith who desire a global peace, we aspire to transcend nationalism through collaboration. At this conference, we would like to search for a path to transcending nationalism through Article 9, a precious gift to not only Japan and Asia but to the world. As the current Japanese administration rushes toward a path of nationalism, our calling as people of faith has been to ever increase our presence and voices.
