Suggested prayer for peace:
“Lord, through the North-South summit meetings,
Let there be a peace settlement,
And please help us to realize lively civilian exchanges between South and North.
Lord, through the North-South summit meetings,
Bring reconciliation and peace to this land,
And please open up an era of peaceful coexistence on the Korean peninsula.
Lord, through peace on the Korean peninsula,
Help us to realize peace all over this world.
In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.”
In preparation for a 27 April summit between North and South Korea - the first in more than a decade - the National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK) is calling on Christians around the world to pray for a successful outcome.
The NCCK is asking people to say a prayer for peace every day at noon for one minute until the day of the summit. Then, between 23-27 April, the NCCK is inviting partners to hold one special prayer service. On the day of the summit, the NCCK is asking partners who are physically able to dedicate either breakfast or lunch as a fasting prayer. The NCCK Reunification Committee will visit Imjingak Reunification Observatory near the border with North Korea to mark the day.
On 29 April, the Sunday after the summit, the NCCK is asking its member churches to hold a special offering for peace and inter-Korean exchange projects.
On 19 April, the NCCK held an ecumenical worship for peace on the Korean Peninsula at Yeondong Presbyterian Church in Seoul, where an estimated 400 people attended.
