Invitation to the 15th Asian Solidarity Conference For the Issue of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan

March 7 - March 9, 2018 in Seoul  -  Hi Seoul Youth Hostel

"Greetings to all those who are leading the way in building peace and justice with our sincere solidarity!

Twenty-five years have passed since the first Asian Solidarity Conference for the Issue of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan in 1992 was held in Seoul. Asian women's solidarity has continued to the 15th Asian Solidarity Conference, and our activities have made important historical achievements by presenting international standards for resolving the issue of wartime sexual violence.

However, the agreement between the Republic of Korea and Japan on December 28, 2015 brought new challenges to the Asian Solidarity which has continued working for the resolution of the Japanese Military sexual slavery issue for 25 years. After the overwhelming victory of Prime Minister Abe's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), the Japanese government's distortion of history and the avoidance of responsibility are becoming worse. Hate crimes against victims has continued without legal measures, and various attempts to threaten peace in Asia, including strengthening military alliances, are taking place in the movement of the international community including the United States.

In such an atmosphere that peace is threatened, some victims of Japanese military sexual slavery in Asia passed away without receiving restoration of human rights and honor. Survivors are also living a hard life due to advanced age and aftermath caused by experiences of 'comfort women'. Despite the 72 years of waiting, justice has not been realized for victims of the Japanese military "comfort women." We need all of our commitment and solidarity action right now.

Thus, from March 7th to 9th, 2018, the Korean Council for the Women Drafted for Military Sexual Slavery by Japan would like to hold the 15th Asian Solidarity Conference for the issue of Military sexual slavery by Japan. The theme is "To resolve the unrealized justice, the issue of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan!"

We are confident that through this conference we will be able to strengthen the solidarity amongst Asian survivors and supporting organizations for a just resolution of the issue of Japanese military sexual slavery. Your presence at this conference is important to us, and we are pleased to invite you to the 15th Asian Solidarity Conference."
