2015 Korea-Japan International Statement
"2015 is a deeply significant commemorative year. We write as scholars from Korea, Japan, and around the world to express shared toncerns and hopes.
In 2010, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Japan's annexation of Korea, more than 1000 Korean and Japanese scholars declared the annexation itself invalid. Moreover, they aligned together in interpreting the 1965 Treaty on Basic Relations Between Japan and the Republic of Korea as null and void from the beginning. 400 Chinese historians added their support. In response, the Japanese government of Prime Minister Kan Naoto acknowledged that the 1910 annexation of Korea was forced against the will of the Korean people.
Five years have passed, and we take note of the current situation with the "promise of 2010 and hope for 2015" in mind. Unfortunately, Japan is moving backwards against the promise of 2010. ..."
