Nishioka Tsutomu Admits Fabricating Evidence on the “Comfort Women”

.... The editors of The Asia-Pacific Journal: Japan Focus draw attention to two separate but related lawsuits underway in Japan. Uemura Takashi, the former Asahi journalist who first reported in 1991 on South Korean victims of the so-called “comfort women” system, has sued Nishioka Tsutomu, a former Tokyo Christian University history professor, and television celebrity Sakurai Yoshiko, for their combined 2014 efforts to defame his (Uemura’s) integrity. Significantly, on September 5, 2018 during cross examination in Tokyo district court, Nishioka admitted to fabricating published evidence — both about a former “comfort woman” and also about Uemura.....
