"I Oppose the Expansion of US Bases in Okinawa"
23.10.2015
Dredging & landfill of dugong & coral ecosystem, Okinawa's most important natural cultural heritage site, now acknowledged as not the "only" or "final" option in US plan for a training airstrip replacement:
On September 29, the US Congress Joint Committee on Armed Services presented the final version of the National Defense Authority Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2016 (October 2015-September 2016). The previous House of Representatives bill called Henoko “the only option for the Futenma Replacement Facility.” This provision was retracted, and this phrase was not included in the text of the bill sent back to the House by the Senate. Nago City Mayor Susumu Inamine, Okinawa prefectural leaders, representatives of Okinawa in the National Diet, prefectural assembly members and business leaders had been challenging the wording “the only,” and appealing for this phrase to not be used in the final version of the NDAA.

Japanese citizens are actively supporting the "Save Henoko" movement by working to block the destruction of mountains in their prefectures to produce landfill:
Approximately 20 people from Kagawa, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Kagoshima Prefectures, where there are quarrying sites, attended the general meeting. Etsuko Abe, who officially assumed office as a co-representative of the council, announced that “not even a grain of the soil of our hometowns may be displaced for use in war.”
